Assembly at an Elementary School in
San Diego - April 2014
The Brazilian group Nós de Chita refers to the beautiful fabric used for the clothes, accessories and home decor in Brazil. The name means We who wear chita or Knots made out of Chita. Chintz is how they call the fabric in India where it started to be produced. Once it reached Brazil, it was pronounced with Portuguese accent and it became Chita. The group presents workshops and assembly programs that use kinesthetic and integrative activities. Traditional Brazilian dances, rhythms and story telling are used as tools to engage children and adults in learning about Brazilian culture and get in touch with their musicianship and social skills. Due to request by schools and educational outreach programs, Nós de Chita incorporates environmental awareness if science is main topic taught in the schools or events. The groups can also highlight the importance of mother Earth and its elements such as water, fire, air and earth. This content is presented based in what the school requests and is always integrated with arts.
